There's nothing like getting your hands on the best
of things. Especially where entertainment is
concerned. Whether you're watching the NFL Finals or
catching a family flick with the folks, there's just
no compromise on the best that your money can buy.
When we talk about the best in television, we're
talking about the
Satellite TV System. The Satellite TV
System is no new concept to the world. In fact, it's
been around for the last decade. The truth though,
is that it has taken its time to make an impression.
And now, with everything that this system has to
offer, there isn't much of anything your money can't
buy.
High definition transmission, an extensive range of
channels and near CD quality audio and visual
content, make Satellite television a cut above the
rest of the entertainment dimension. A progressive
medium, Satellite TV is here for keeps and this
isn't just a thought. Statistics show that in
January of 2004, there was an estimate of 20 million
subscribers in the United States alone. With the
numbers on the table, there isn't much reason to
believe otherwise.
Satellite TV - The Competitors
The three main competitors in the Satellite TV
Provider market are Direct TV, Dish Network and
Voom. Each of these providers operates an individual
Satellite task force to compete with the other in
providing programs and channels greater in quantity
and quality and to achieve the largest customer base
as a satellite TV Provider.
Satellite TV Provider #1 - DirecTV
Direct TV is the benefactor of over 12 million
subscribers and is the U.S.A.'s first and largest
high power Satellite TV provider. It is available in
all 50 states and offers more than 100 channels and
special packages, according to the plan adopted.
Direct TV also provides additional services such as
pay per view where a viewer can opt to watch a
particular program outside the regular plan, paying
for the one program alone. DVR or Digital Video
Recording is another unique service available to
customers. This service allows a viewer to
fast-forward, rewind and record while the program is
being broadcast without the use of any additional
recording equipment. Most plans offered by Direct TV
are competitive and reasonably rated, leading to its
multiple successes in the market.
Satellite TV Provider #2 - Dish Network
Direct TV met its match when dish network was
Launched in December 1995, Dish Network Satellite
system is the offspring of parent company Echo Star
Communications Corporation. Echo Star has been in
the Satellite industry for the last 20 years and has
made Dish Network the fastest growing Satellite
television provider in the United States. Dish
Network owns 9 Satellites and is the provider of
over 500 channels. It is the first in its class to
supply two-way, high-speed Internet access via
Satellite through Start band and attained 1 million
customers in the first 2 years of its initiation.
Like Direct TV, Dish Network also offers DVR and pay
per view facilities. Dish Network is constantly
sating into Direct TV's market by consistent
improvement in its services and with customer
friendly prices and offers. Dish network offered to
buy the whole of direct TV, but the federal court
did not allow the transactions to happen fearing
monopoly in the satellite TV market. Dish network is
the emerging leader in the satellite TV Market and
is here to stay as one!
Satellite TV Provider #3 - Voom
Possibly the one network offering the highest number
of high definition channels, in comparison to
DirecTV and Dish Network's limited range, Voom is
undoubtedly the best deal if you're looking at HDTV.
Packed with more than 28 channels of high definition
programming and 42 channels of standard programming,
Voom justifies its high pricing against the quality
of entertainment it offers. And this isn't all. For
those with local programming, Voom will supply, free
of cost, a digital antenna much like a standard
antenna, so you won't have to rely on Voom to
transmit your local programming through Satellite.
And where available, local high definition channels
will also be transmitted through Voom's high
definition antenna.
Voom gives subscribers access to crème channels like
HD Cinema10 and World Sport HD. Along with these
high definition channels, you'll get unique
programming like Gallery HD devoted to 'art,
architecture and cultural performance.' Voom also
broadcasts cable favorites such as the Travel
Channel, Discovery and the Weather Channel.
Recently , Voom was bought over by EchoStar
Communications Corporation, the mother ship of Dish
Network and is now, owned by the same. Nonetheless,
it continues to provide the same services as an
affiliate of Dish Network.
