Chief of Palestinian satellite TV resigns
GAZA, April 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Chief of Palestinian Satellite Television Maher al Rayyes quitted his job after he presented a resignation letter to the Minister of Information Nabil Shaath, official sources said Wednesday.
The resignation letter was dated April 6 and the reason of the resignation was related to the constant insolvency the station suffered from since it did not get allowances from the Palestinian National Authority (PNA), said the sources.
The satellite TV station was also exposed to a variety of influences from different commands and powerful authorities, as an attempt to change the station's policy, inclinations and its way ofworking.
Despite the mentioned reasons Rayyes has mentioned to justify his attitude to resign, Shaath did not approve his resignation, asserted the same sources.
Meanwhile, the PNA cabinet decided Wednesday to unify the official mass media organizations.
The cabinet clarified in a statement that an executive media council headed by Shaath will be formed and the its members will come from every official media organization.
The statement indicated that the media council aims at coordinating between media organizations, developing new strategies, and implementing its plans to join the ground and satellite stations together.
It also aims at joining the State Information Service (SIC) with the Palestinian news agency WAFA. Enditem
